England’s surprisingly good showing in the first of the two T20 matches has raised the excitement levels before the ODI Series agains South Africa. However, England have been jolted by twin injuries - spinner Graeme Swann and all-rounder Stuart Broad have been ruled out for the first two one-dayers. Two other players, Paul Collingwood and James Anderson are also facing fitness issues.

Another interesting developement that has taken place before the series is related to the ex-coach of England, Duncan Fletcher. He has now joined the South African camp and England are genuinely worried that he will be divulging valuable inside details to the opposition.

In spite of all these, we can look forward to an interesting encounter tomorrow : England are a better one-day team than a T20 team. Especially on wickets that assist bowlers, they have come good. Plus there is Eoin Morgan who has shown that he can single-handedly change the contours of a short game!

Michael Hussey compiled an excellent one-day innings of 73 to build on Ricky Ponting's solid platform as Australia fought off an Indian revival to post 292 for 8 in Vadodara. Four Australians reached half-centuries and it was enough to set India a challenging target despite the batting Powerplay working to India's advantage late in the innings.

Ponting, Hussey, Cameron White and Tim Paine all posted half-centuries but India's bowlers ensured none of them went on to triple figures. Hussey's confidence was key in ensuring the good start was not wasted and in a typically anonymous, accumulating style he compiled his 73 from 54 balls.

Hussey pierced the field several times for boundaries in the final overs and, while he generally took few risks, an enormous straight six off Praveen Kumar in the penultimate over resulted in a lost ball. In the final over he sent a catch down deep midwicket's throat as Ishant Sharma delivered a brilliant 50th over that brought two wickets for one run and could yet prove a turning point.

Hussey ticked the score over with hard running but Australia were disappointed with a result of 3 for 33 from their batting Powerplay, which began in the 43rd over with Hussey and White well set. White had started to find the middle of the bat - a clean six over long-on from Suresh Raina's only over was his highlight - but skied the second ball of the Powerplay and was caught off Ashish Nehra for 51.

Adam Voges holed out to deep midwicket off Harbhajan Singh and James Hopes was run out in a horrible mix-up with Hussey, whose calling has been questionable in the past few months, to leave Australia slightly adrift of what could have been a bigger score. The Hussey-White partnership had been worth 76 and continued on the solid platform built by Ponting and Paine.

They combined for a 97-run second-wicket partnership that proved batting first was not a problem despite the early-morning start. Ponting was fierce against the fast men and his highlights included a crunching, aerial straight drive for four off Ishant and a top-edged six when he advanced at Praveen Kumar and hooked a bouncer.

Praveen felt the brunt of Ponting's form and was dispatched for consecutive boundaries through midwicket and then punched through cover. Ponting also enjoyed facing the spinners and launched Ravindra Jadeja over long-off for a six that was parried over the boundary by Nehra, who slightly misjudged the catch opportunity.

Jadeja eventually had his revenge when Ponting, on 74, played back to a delivery that straightened and was trapped in front of middle stump. For much of his innings Ponting had the assistance of Paine, who kept his position as opener despite the presence of Shaun Marsh in the squad.

Paine was particularly strong off his pads, flicking over and through the on-side field whenever the fast men bowled too straight. He was caught behind for 50 trying to cut a wide ball from Ishant, who along with Nehra in the early stages was particularly impressive and bowled full enough to allow the ball to swing.

Nehra had made the initial breakthrough in the second over, when there was some movement in the air, and he had Shane Watson adjudged lbw for 5. Sachin Tendulkar rolled back the years, and then some more. He stroked, ran and yearned for runs like it was the 1990s but, unlike those days, he didn't need to take any chances or risks on the way to his 86th international century. By the time Tendulkar was done, he had given India a strong chance of ending a run of five straight defeats in completed tournament finals to Sri Lanka.

This was Tendulkar's ninth international century since May 2007, to go with seven scores in the 90s. Judging by this form, 100 international hundreds have become a distinct possibility. Today admittedly he was helped by MS Dhoni winning the toss at one of the worst ODI venues, in terms of the toss influencing the result of the match. But what followed the toss was an absolute master class. A measure of the bowlers' helplessness lay in the fact that the first time he hit a ball in the air was to reach his fifty, that too off a free hit. With Tendulkar batting the way he was, who needed aerial shots?

He shared valuable partnerships with Rahul Dravid, Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh, though the especially crucial one was the stand with Dravid. Tendulkar and Dravid, 73 years and 762 ODI caps (before this match) between them, took charge of what has looked a shaky batting line-up: their 95-run opening stand took them to No. 6 on the all-time partnership aggregates in ODIs.

Tendulkar you simply couldn't take your eye off. Albeit on a flat track, Tendulkar and Dravid were prepared to work hard in sapping conditions, their shirts turning to dark blue with sweat even before the shine went off the white ball.

After Dravid got India going with a boundary off the second ball of the innings, it was all Tendulkar and his classy shots. Nuwan Kulasekera and Thilan Thushara didn't serve up loose half-volleys or long hops; Tendulkar had to work for every forceful shot. The first ball he faced he punched sweetly off his toes, wide of mid-off for three. In the fourth over, he took a similar delivery and wristed it wide of mid-on for three. We were on to something.

A string of lovely boundaries followed, the best being the punches through a tight cover ring, and the late flicks from off and middle stump to midwicket and cow corner. With Dravid being Dravid, there were hardly any chances for the bowlers; the one that came their way Tillakaratne Dilshan dropped at point. Dravid was 24 then, and India had reached 58 in the 12th over.

Lasith Malinga came on in the 14th over, and was subjected to similar treatment at once: an impeccable punch through the covers for four. With that free hit, a slice over cover, Tendulkar reached his 92nd ODI fifty, off 47 balls.

Dravid followed it up with an aerial shot of his own, reading an Ajantha Mendis googly early, and lofting him over long-on. It was not all fours and sixes, but smart placements on the non-boundary hits: only 38 of the 95-run stand came in fours and sixes.

Dhoni moved up to No. 3, and settled into the innings without wasting much time. By then Tendulkar had started taking the odd chance, stepping out, making room, and hitting Jayasuriya and Mendis over extra cover. Not all such shots brought boundaries, but the twos and threes were a main feature of the innings. During the 110-run second-wicket stand, Dhoni made Tendulkar run hard, and was returned the favour by the man eight years his senior. Never did Dhoni outscore Tendulkar, and between them the two saw off the threat the spinning track posed.

When he hit an inside-out boundary off Mendis in the 29th over, Tendulkar reached his 90s and serenely, with ones and twos, brought up the hundred. The temptation for the double century was on but after the hundred came the cramps, and when Tendulkar opted for a runner we were reminded for the first time it was in fact the year 2009.

Dravid came back to run, but Tendulkar did most of the calling. The bowlers showed no mercy, Malinga bowling a mix of bouncers and yorkers. Tendulkar's response was to hit Mendis for a six inside-out and reverse-sweep two boundaries in three balls. There are several confusions around swine flu that has spread in India, in particular.

Let me list down the confusions:

1. Is Swine flu similar to Common flu..? If yes then why are some people dying..?
2. While it is reported that people with underlying diseases will succumb to the disease, even people with no underlying disease seems to have died in India. Why…?
3. Is this strain of Virus different from other strains in the world..?
4. Should we wear masks in crowded places..? Does that mean India should produce billion masks every day..
5. What is the Indian Statistics on people who contracted the virus but survived..?
6. Will this Virus spread in Air Conditioned offices more easily..? Should that mean we should switch of all Air conditioners..?
7. What is the readiness of our Government if this swine flu becomes epidemic..?
8. How can poor people living in slums, health care staff (not doctors, but support staff ranging from housekeeping, security to nurses) and others who are forced to work in unsafe environments be protected..? Can they afford masks everyday..?
9. Why were Private Hospitals not prepared apriori for screening and testing for Virus..?
10. Once our body fights swine flu virus, will it become immune to the virus..?
11. Will the virus keep circulating amongst the Indian population continuously as some segments of population keeps falling as its victim after one another…?
12. Local doctors are advising swine flu testing only if the person has some underlying diseases. In the meanwhile the person continues to infect everyone else with swine flu virus and in the process may infect someone with underlying disease and causing his death. Does that mean for any type of flu, the person should be quarantined..?
13. It seems a person is capable of infecting others even after he becomes normal. But there are no specific guidelines for how long people should remain quarantined. What is becoming normal..? How many days should person stay away..? When does it start..? When it should end..? Generally our tendency is to start moving in once you start getting the OK feeling.
14. Schools have been shut for 3-4 days now. How long can we remain shut..? What is the mexico experience teaching us..?

Well there are no clear answers to the above questions, atleast with me. But if someone has a clear answer and that too is doubly authentic, he/she is welcome to provide the same in this blog. I will update the answers immediately after the questions and this blog can become a running ‘FAQ’. I will also add any new questions to the blog, if it comes up from anyone.

One thing I can definitely say is that there is no reason to beleive rumors being spread on Swine Flu cure with Tulsi, Niligiris oil etc. While Tulsi is a great medicine in general, to say it cures Swine Flu virus is reckless rumor mongering. Similar is the case of Niligirs oil. Ayurved works totally differently. Our system of medicine was more about prevention than cure. Hence do not believe in such rumors. I am also not sure of Homeopathy in this regard.

In a lighter vein, I see a new kind of wine flu, I mean er.., swine flu spreading through corporates.

The symptoms include running nose, complaint of too much crowd, yearning for loneliness from office/wife and sometimes slight fever too.

The solution seems to be to subject the subject to isolation in a room with few bottles of ‘medicine’ and it seems the flu is gone forever. Most top ranking executives are having this wine flu now-a-days. Wine flu ranks above vacations now, when it comes to absence of work.

It's official ... the game has been called off and India have won by 16 runs on the D-L method. Dhoni had talked about bad light coming into play at the toss, and it's turned out precisely that way. India have taken a 3-0 lead in the series.

"It is frustrating, it would have been nice to get a full game in today," Pietersen said. "We're getting better though, the games are getting closer. It'd be nice if one of our batters got in and scored a 100. "

"At the end of the day the umpire made decisions and unfortunately we came out bottom," Pietersen said when asked about the light.

"In the morning at the toss I said that D-L would come into play," Dhoni said. "It was bound to happen. I had the sheet in my pocket when I went to bat. We knew if we didn't lose wickets we would get ahead of the equation. the pitch was slower when we batted and the odd ball was turning ... but we had D-L in mind and we got of to a decent start and were always ahead of the equation."

Harbhajan Singh is the Man of the Match for his spell of 3 for 31.
