Hello and a warm welcome to the first Test between India and Sri Lanka. While these sides have been playing each other every other day in coloured clothing, a Test series comes as welcome relief. The pre-match buzz has rightly focused on Muttiah Muralitharan's farewell, but India have a habit of gate-crashing these parties - as a certain Steve Waugh would remember, from 2004. Kumar Sangakkara and co. will do well to focus on the job at hand.
The visitors have had a very patchy lead-up to the game, with injuries to key bowlers, a sub-standard performance in the warm-up game and serious doubts over their ability to take 20 wickets - not the kind of problems one would associate with the world's no. 1 ranked Test side. If India are to hold on to that spot longer, they have a tough few days ahead. Despite winning a Test in each of their tours to Sri Lanka in the 2000s, they ended up losing both series 2-1.
